Description
Concierto de Milonga was commissioned by Solungga Liu and the Bowling Green State University New Music Ensemble. It is a piano concerto directly inspired by Argentine Tango from the 1920s through 1940s and is arranged according to the basic structure of a milonga (a tango social party). Two kinds of music are at play here: a more contemporary idiom presented in the introduction and two cortinas (interludes); and three tangos–tango, vals and milonga. The piece is dedicated to my wife, Winnie Cheung.
